Medical Advisory Board

Medical Advisory Board

Medical Advisory Board

Purpose and Aim of the MAB:

  • To provide an independent advice and constructive challenge for ECR local focus, strategy, plans and direction setting, serving as a sounding board to the ECR Board.
  • To offer oversight and practical assistance to ensure ECR gathers and uses evidence-based local experience and appropriate scientific evidence.
  • To serve as a networking and engagement platform for diverse and converging stakeholders in Essex with interest in and/or direct experience of cancer research and innovation, clinical education and public health, patient journey and survivorship.
  • To identify and engage sources of additional scientific and human ‘Expert’ advice, including emerging fundraising and investment opportunities to improve experiences of those living with cancer and to support Essex expertise and know-how in cancer research, treatments, education and service design.

Membership: Draft framework for discussion on 27th June

  • Who is membership open to?
  • Are there any restrictions on numbers?
  • How best to engage those affected and surviving cancer/public members?
  • List of collaborating organisations

Review of ToR:  Annually first three years

Working methods and frequency of meetings:

  • Face to face MAB meetings will be convened twice a year to discuss agenda and issues raised by the ECR Board. MAB communications and interactions will be organised by Chair and Vice Chair who will also generate and collate agenda items suggested by the MAB membership. (At this stage ECR has no secretarial support to the MAB/Board, hence all paperwork will be kept to a minimum with e-mail distribution list and contact details being kept by the ECR Board)
  • Additional teleconference could be set up to discuss any emerging business, events or plans in the interim. Where necessary, it is envisaged that a sub-group could be set up to address a specific matter as suggested and agreed by the MAB.
  • Members of the MAB to communicate and share information and knowledge resources via e-mail and ECR website password protected discussion board (would such facility help more regular and wider engagement in between the meetings?)
